Fifteen More Minutes

Have you ever been reading a really good book that you just can’t put down? You may say to yourself “five more minutes” or “one more chapter“.

But…

Have you ever said “just five more minutes” about something you are looking to be done with?

Whether it’s taxes, exercising, etc…

We all have something in our lives that we are looking toward. One goal down and on to the next one. One more chapter down. One day closer to Jesus coming back for us.

The other night, I was determined to spend some quality time with Jesus. I planned on starting and ending at a certain time, which I know that already sounds bad, but it gets better. While I was reading the Bible, I checked my phone to see how much time was left.

Fifteen minutes.

As soon as thought of how much was left, I felt terrible.

I just calculated how much more time I was going to spend with God. Wow.

I realized God isn’t first place in my life. Even though He should be.

I’m glad I put time aside to spend with Him, otherwise it would have been binge watching more Friends. I have been robbing God of my time.

What about you? Have you been robbing God of your time?

Have you ever calculated how much more time to spend with Him?

Matt. 6:33

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

I never want to check my phone again during my time with Him. I want to keep pressing on this journey as I strive to grow closer to Him.

I have to determine in my heart to give God first place in my life and to choose to spend time with Him because I yearn for it, not just to check a box.

Will you determine that too?

Let’s choose God first. Always.

  1. I do the same thing sometimes with devotions Emily, only I’ll check ahead to see how long the Psalm is sometimes before I read it just in case I think it may cut into my much looked forward to morning rush hour drive time!
