Happy Friday!

There were two speakers who spoke this past Wednesday night at church. Honestly, I had been looking forward to the speaker that was supposed to go last. I hadn’t thought that the first speaker might end up giving a message I had so clearly needed.

The speaker went on to preach about how we limit God. He went on through the several ways that we can limit Him.

Here are a few of the points that really hit home:

~ We limit because we don’t remember past victories

The moment after something happens can be crucial. We can choose to remember or forget what just happened. If it truly was a great memory, like watching a niece or nephew take their first steps, a brother graduate high school, going skydiving and surviving, watching your favorite team win the Super Bowl, etc., it’s going to be hard to forget. While those may be some great memories, they are fleeting. They all last but a moment. Victories God provides in our lives shouldn’t be forgotten. They may look very different in each of our lives, but none of them should be forgotten. When a victory occurs in our lives no matter the size, we should take a moment to document it, that way it will be nearly impossible to forget.

~ We limit by unbelief

“God could never do that in my life…”

“He will never fix this situation”

Satan can plant small seeds of doubt in our minds. Those seeds can begin to grow like weeds overtaking a garden.  Satan uses negative thinking to overwhelm us to the point where we are flooded with doubtful, unbelieving thoughts. We can ask for help from God to give us the strength to not let our thoughts control us.

Hebrews 11:1

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

We may have unbelief about a situation that may be taking longer to heal than we had hoped or planned. It’s not in our timing. God’s timing is perfect. We just have to have faith.

~ We limit by prayerlessness

Matthew 7:7-8

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”

“God, I could’ve really used Your help with that…”

We may immediately think this way after something happens in our lives. Did we ask God for help? If not, we can’t expect His help. If we pray and seek His face, He will help guide us through whatever we may be facing.

~ We limit by laziness

When the work day ends, we may be ready to head home and practically do nothing but enjoy the rest of the evening with nothing too strenuous. On the truly hard days, it may seem like nothing more than laziness is possible. Laziness can prevent us from enjoying so many amazing things.

Prov. 10:4

“He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.”

Eccl. 9:10

“Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might;”

Don’t let laziness overtake you. Start by taking small steps out of the laziness pit, whether it be reading your Bible, praying, making a to-do list, cleaning the house, etc.

We may be scared to hike up a steep mountain (literally & figuratively), but God is right beside us each step of the way. The view is pretty amazing from the top! Don’t be scared of the climb. If we limit ourselves, we won’t get to enjoy the amazing view of all that God has done.

Don’t set limits on what God can do!
