“It’s raining. It’s pouring. The old man is snoring…”
This morning, as the rain was sprinkling, I headed to my car with my umbrella in my hand, but the umbrella wasn’t open. It was just sprinkling and I walk fast, so I didn’t think I really needed an umbrella for the short walk.
I might have looked silly to the truck passing by as they also knew it was raining but I chose to not use the one thing that would have protected me from getting wet.
I personally chose to not use the umbrella. Did I get wet? Yes. Could I have prevented getting wet by simply pushing the button that would’ve opened the umbrella? Yes.
I literally held protection from the rain in my hand and I chose not to use it.
Don’t we also do this in our spiritual lives?
We choose to not turn to God or fully give Him our lives because we feel like we can handle it.
“I got this God, it’s not too bad, I’ll come to you when I really need help.”
Whoa! That could be dangerous uttering this phrase to God.
He doesn’t want to be our back up plan. He doesn’t want to be plan B.
He wants to be the game plan.
Do you think sport teams use plan B as their first choice? Of course not.
There’s a reason they have a plan A. They believe it’s their best shot at victory.
God wants to be first place in our lives.
That won’t happen until we let Him have first place.
Not until we decide to fully open the umbrella will He have full reign in our lives.
Surrendering our whole life into God’s hands can be frightening. Letting God have His perfect way in our lives takes a lot of faith. He doesn’t promise that it will be easy, but He does promise to be with us every step of the way.
Rain or shine. Hail or snow. Thunderstorms or tornados. Cancer or the flu. Car trouble or no car at all. Relationship struggles or a relationship that seems to good to be true. Kids or the struggle to have them.
No matter the type of storm or lack of storm in our lives – God is there.
True faith is choosing to trust Him in the rain and the shine.
It can be easy to just want to trust Him during the rain and then take over the reins when it seems to be smooth sailing.
Imagine if you had a friend that only came to you when they hit rock bottom. They come to you for help and then when all seems to be well in their lives you never hear from them. Would you really want to be friends with someone that only comes to you when their struggling? I personally wouldn’t. Those kind of friends can be draining.
I hope to be the kind of friend that people would want to be around in the good and bad times.
God wants the same. He wants to be the one what we turn to in every positive and negative moment in our lives.
He is the only one that can provide constant love, strength and protection.
Let’s dare to open our umbrellas to God. Let Him take hold of the umbrella as He directs our every step.
Matthew 17:20
“…If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”
Luke 1:37
“For with God nothing shall be impossible.”
