“Well, this is going to take forever…”

My friend and I said in unison, as we stepped off the elevator in the parking garage. As we headed to the car, we could see bumper to bumper traffic. We knew it would be awhile before we would be headed back home.

We got into the car and waited. And waited.  And waited.  This particular situation would be perfect for someone that is learning to be more patient. We sat there for who knows how long just in the parking space.

My friend cautiously started backing the car out inch by inch waiting for someone, anyone to let us out.

After what felt like an eternity, although was probably only more like 10-20 min, someone finally let us out of our parking spot.

Imagine if no one had let anyone go ahead of them. We would have been there for probably hours.

While traffic can be atrocious,  it is one of the many ways where we can seek to be a positive testimony.

If we always drive with road rage, will people think we are headed to church, a sports game, etc.?

People with an “others first” mentality will let others go before them. I’m not just talking about traffic here.

We can be so wrapped up in a “ME, ME, ME” mentality, we totally forget about people around us.

Are we willing to go out of our way and be kind to someone in need?

God wants us to have a servant’s heart putting others before ourselves.

I’m not saying we have to let every single person go ahead of us, but simply showing that we care even in the tiniest of ways.

It doesn’t have to be just through traffic, obviously, but that is definitely one area where we can seek to be kind and not be flustered about every little driving quirk that may drive us crazy.

Romans 12:10

“Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;”

Ephesians 4:23

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”

Galatians 5:13

“For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.”

 

So, as we go out and about today, let’s seek to be a blessing to others.
