Have you ever talked with someone after they’ve gone fishing and they tell you countless stories about what went right or wrong during their expedition?
Usually one of their stories will include the fish’s size where they’ll spread out their arms proclaiming how big their fish was.
Was the fish really that big? Who knows. We may even let them tell their story with exaggerated oh’s and ah’s for full effect.
I couldn’t help but think of this example when I thought of the question, how big is my faith? And then Gideon came to mind…
Judges 6:14-16
“And there came an angel of the Lord, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites. And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour. And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites. And the Lord looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee? And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house. And the Lord said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.”
In verse 15, Gideon says, “Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.“
He is telling God that because his family is poor and he is the least in his father’s house surely God can’t use him.
God chooses Gideon and encourages him by letting him know that He is with him.
Gideon goes from questioning to God to being greatly used by God.
Matt. 17:20
“And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”
God called on Gideon, He may call on you next.
None of us our physically capable to do what God can.
All He asks of us is to have faith in Him.
Faith the size of a mustard seed.
If we have less than an ounce of faith, God will help us move whatever mountains we may be facing.
Some Americans may be stressed with the upcoming election. We may fear what will happen to our nation if a certain someone wins.
Instead of stressing, why not trust that God knows what He’s doing?
Remember, this world is not our home, we are just passing through.
He is in full control, no matter what happens.
So, I ask you: how big is your faith?
Whatever may happen Nov. 3, will you choose to fully trust in God?
Thanks for this reminder Emily ๐
