In America, we just celebrated Thanksgiving. A time where we reflect on all that we are grateful for.
Since I have no family nearby, I went with a few friends to Cracker Barrel to celebrate Thanksgiving. (We usually cook up a huge spread and invite those who have no where to go). Since it was my first time at Cracker Barrel for Thanksgiving, I was very surprised that both Cracker Barrel’s in town were packed with people. I couldn’t help but think “All these people don’t cook for Thanksgiving?!”
I get it. The wanting to spend more time with family and friends than in the kitchen. Thankfully, in America, we have the option to go to a restaurant that has a Thanksgiving meal.
We are so blessed. So much so, that we should be thankful everyday and not just on Thanksgiving day.
In Sunday school this past Sunday, the lesson was on praising. There were application questions on the back of the handout and the first question was about how we could praise God amidst our current situation.
I’m still currently trying to answer that question.
How can we praise God amidst our current situation?
We can thank God for all that He has already provided.
God has provided more than I could ever dream and yet I still don’t live fully satisfied. I may already have five different lip balms, but then I see a cute lip balm in the store and my heart isn’t satisfied with the ones I already own.
There may be three different kinds of cereal in the cabinet, but we can be dissatisfied if our favorite cereal isn’t one of the three.
Something as simple as lip balm and cereal can make us dissatisfied.
Look around at all that you own. If you’re reading this right now, that means you have a phone, computer or both.
I may not be fully satisfied with where I am, but I can be. I can look to God, thank Him for all that He has given me and trust He knows what’s best. Trust in His perfect timing, not mine.
Jeremiah 29:11
“ For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
Eccl. 3:11
“He has made everything beautiful in its time…”
I Chron. 16:34
“O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good;
for his mercy endureth for ever.”
God’s blessings are never ending. God created us to bring Him glory. No matter what may be going on in our lives, God deserves our praise.
Will we praise Him even still?
