Compare & Beware

They have greener eyes than me.

I like their shade of blonde hair more than mine.

I wish I could lose weight as fast as they did.

They have the perfect family.

They got promoted…AGAIN

They drive a nicer car than my beat up clunker.

Sound familiar?

While none of those comparisons may apply to you, we all deal with comparison.

Social media is one of the biggest comparison pitfalls we can fall into, as most of us spend hours a day scrolling through social media.

While social media can have its benefits, like being inspired or catching up with friends, it can be so easy to look and compare ourselves with others.

Ps. 139:14

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”

God created us exactly the way He designed us to be. He created us with the exact shade of hair color, skin color & eye color He wanted us to have.

We are fearfully and wonderfully made because of who made us.

We can take confidence in that!

2 Cor. 10:12

“For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.”

Beware of comparing. Comparing ourselves to others is not wise. It only results in us being dissatisfied and ungrateful.

Most of us have a house to live in, clothes on our back, food in the fridge, several gadgets to make our life easier. We have so much to be thankful for. And yet, we feel if we just had this or that our lives would be better.

This past Sunday, I determined to try and be off social media as much as possible. Yes, I still checked it a few times, but it was the first day in I don’t know how long that I spent most of my day not on social media. It’s sad to admit, but it’s the truth.

We waste time comparing ourselves. If we really wish to lose as much weight as someone we saw on Instagram, why not get off of social media and go for a walk or do some stretches or Pilates moves while watching our favorite show?

Let’s not get caught up in the comparison trap. Satan loves it when we compare ourselves. He wants us to be dissatisfied and ungrateful.  He deceives and tricks us into thinking we need different eyes, hair, a nicer car or a bigger house.

Why not look around at all that God has blessed us with?

He has blessed us with more than we could ever imagine.

  1. I have been purposing to stay off of social media too, and I can’t believe (well, actually I can) how much better it makes me feel to just go back to not worrying about what’s going on everywhere else! I’ve been focusing on what’s going on in my life!! And it’s so nice! Like you said, I can look around at my blessings, and I have so many!!! 💕Thanks for the post!!
